Brilliant Parents trains parents using the Triple P Positive Parenting Programme, the most evidence-based parenting programme in the world. Triple P works for us not only because of its evidence-based theory, but also for the flexibility of its programmes. Triple P Parenting allows for lots of open discussion and peer support, which works with the wide range of people from different cultures and backgrounds we work with in our communities.
Triple P also gives us a great range of tools to choose from when choosing a programme for a group, from seminars to one-to-ones, discussion groups and short courses; we are able to customise programmes depending on the situation. Below is a short introduction to all the components we offer, each component can be run for early years, 2-12 years old and for teens.
We run Triple P Seminars in London Boroughs for large groups of parents.
There are six seminars in the Triple P series. For 2-12 year olds there are:
- The Power of Positive Parenting
- Raising Confident, Competent Children
- Raising Resilient Children.
For teenagers there are:
- Raising Responsible Teenagers
- Raising Competent Teenagers
- Getting Teenagers Connected.
Parents can choose to do one, two or all three seminars. They deal with the most common parenting issues we all face such as getting a toddler to eat her dinner or a teenager to be reliable. Brilliant Parents runs Triple P Seminars in Brent, Harrow and in a number of other London boroughs in community organisations such as schools and children’s centres. The seminars last around 90 minutes and are designed to be a brief introduction to the Triple P strategies and to give parents techniques to try out at home.
We run Triple P discussion groups as small group sessions, bringing together parents who are experiencing the same parenting issue.
There are four problem topics to choose from for children aged 2- 12:
- Dealing with Disobedience
- Developing Good Bedtime Routines
- Managing Fighting and Aggression
- Hassle-free Shopping with Children
There are also problem topics for teenagers, namely:
- Getting Teenagers to Cooperate
- Coping with Teenagers’ Emotions
- Building Teenagers’ Survival Skills
- Reducing Family Conflict
In a relaxed group session, we will give you tips and suggestions for dealing with your child’s problem behaviour, looking at short video clips showing other parents successfully dealing with the same issue and sharing your thoughts with the other parents in the group.
Parents want to create the happiest home life they can. Triple P Group Parenting Courses help you, as parents, learn more about positive parenting, how you can apply it to your family and help prepare you for family life’s ups and downs and for any unexpected behaviour problems in your children.
Triple P Group Parenting Courses are a great opportunity for parents to meet other parents in similar situations – other parents who’ll support each other and share stories. A workbook gives parents the tools and information to start positive parenting right away at home and Brilliant Parents will provide backup phone support and keep in touch to find out how the group are doing and offer advice. As well as the group sessions this is about each family’s journey and improving their parenting experience.
Triple P Stepping Stones
Facilitators delivering Triple P Stepping Stones courses welcome parents who have a child with a disability to come together to learn and grow together.
Brilliant Parents also delivers Triple P Stepping Stones. Research has demonstrated that Triple P Stepping Stones is effective and acceptable for families who have children with disabilities. Intervention effects also extend to include improved parenting styles, reduced parental stress and improved marital satisfaction. Parents who have attended our Stepping Stones courses tell us that they have benefited greatly.
Mum, Jacqui Ryan, who attended a Brilliant Parents Stepping Stones course and whose son suffers with Prader-Willi Syndrome
“Attending the course gave me a chance of looking at what to change, how I look at dealing with my son’s behaviour and diverting him to other activities. It has made me look at what works for our family and made me confident at dealing with my son’s behaviour. The course has changed and made me understand the way every situation has to be dealt with. I am glad I went on the course”
FROM OUR PARENTS
“At the start of the course I realised that I was always shouting whenever the kids were misbehaving. I discussed it and was taught many strategies to deal with issues regarding their behaviour. Now I can manage the challenges and have learnt how to deal with the misbehaviour and am improving my parenting patterns.”
Dee Burn, Operations Manager, Holloway Prison
“Having attended these seminars, I was extremely impressed by the way Ms Darroux was not only familiar with the context of the seminars, but also was able to put the women at ease, mostly by speaking to them not at them. She brought the content to life, using examples which the women could relate to. She also adapted the sessions with examples of how women could put things into practice while in prison. . I would thoroughly recommend Ms Darroux not only to prisons but to any area where there may be families that are deemed hard to reach.”
COMMISSIONER IN HARROW
“Meave displayed vast knowledge when delivering the Triple P programme, and catered accordingly to the parents’ own individual needs. The work did not end there – Meave had efficiently written up a report of the overall programme she had undertaken.
My experience with using Brilliant Women has been positive, effective and straightforward without any complications. Meave did offer her services to me for any future programmes, and I would definitely not hesitate in contacting Brilliant Woman again if the need arises.
A truly outstanding company, which any Local Authority would benefit from working with.”
COMMISSIONER IN BRENT
“Brilliant Women have been robust in their monitoring and evaluation of programmes, producing comprehensive reports following programme completion to evidence the outcomes that parents have achieved. Brent hope to develop the ongoing partnership with Brilliant Women, to continue to offer accredited parenting programmes that are delivered to a high quality, and that support the needs of Brent parents.”
